About Me
I am a naturopathic doctor with a long history of education, an insatiable hunger for learning and a passion for teaching people how to find optimal health. My B.Sc in Microbiology, M.Sc in Biomedical Physiology and strong research background, coupled with my generous nature, and love for everything medicine created the perfect recipe for doctorhood.
I love empowering patients to understand their health and discover their confidence by feeling and looking their best. As a licensed naturopathic physician, I enjoy bridging the gap between conventional and traditional medicine to provide the most integrative and holistic care possible for my patients.
Who Am I?
I am an easy-going person who loves to laugh and live life to the fullest. Undeniably, I am a big nerd. From a young age, I have been fascinated with learning about all things science -- from the human body to the tiny bugs we call bacteria. In my leisure time, I love baking and cooking, being out in nature, playing badminton, and spending time with my amazing family and friends. Experiencing new things, such as travelling with my husband, meeting new people, trying new foods or expanding my knowledge, is something I put on my priority list, everyday.
What Made Me Choose Naturopathic Medicine?
I decided to pursue medicine during my undergraduate studies as my interest in learning about health grew. Over the years, three of my grandparents passed away because of misdiagnoses due to inadequate care. These incidences had a significant impact on my life. As a result, I decided to empower myself and further my education with the goal of becoming a doctor. I wrote the required exams and submitted my application for medical school; however, when a close friend enlightened me on the field of naturopathic medicine, the game changed.
Treating the whole person, rather than simply treating individual symptoms just made more sense to me. I also chose naturopathic medicine because I resonated with the spectrum of care used to treat patients. This spectrum begins with prevention of disease (most importantly), followed by using the most natural and least invasive methods for less intense conditions, and lastly, intense treatment for more threatening situations. In addition, being of Indian decent and having emigrated from East Africa, I grew up using many medicinal herbs not knowing their true value or their mechanism of action in the body. I was intrigued to learn more about medicinal plants and understand the use of traditional medicines – naturopathic medicine was the perfect avenue.
Why Am I Qualified?
Having completed almost 12 years of post-secondary education, I have a thorough background in science and medicine. Upon graduating from naturopathic medical school, I was awarded the Academic Excellence award for my high achievements. I also have experience working in various clinical settings and treating a number of conditions.
